Car Reviews Ford Focus

With inflation on the economy and gas prices on the rise American car manufacturers are trying to compete with the import brands. American auto manufacturers have been trying to produce gas efficient cars for years with General Motors ill fated GEO brand of cars and the ford aspire compact. These cars still never came close to outselling the big three japanese auto makers, although the Geo Metro was a decent seller. When I first saw the Ford Focus I was initially un surprised with it, all I could think was how ford was going to market another tin can. The Ford Focus looked the part but I wasn’t sure it could handle it, with it’s small plastic hubcaps and bumpers. Well I guess you can probably guess I was pretty impressed when I actually drove this small car. Appearance: The Ford Focus has a unique look to it, although ford has toned this car down over the years it still looks odd. The Focus is about the length of a newer corolla, and about the width of a chevy aveo. The focus has huge front lights which serve well for night time, and the focus also has two optional fog lights under the front bumper. The back lights are huge and they have a duck tail wing over them, which I think is fords attemp at sporty. The belt line of the car is similar to a second gen Geo Metro, and it’s actually a pretty tall car inside. The wheels aren’t exciting and they look smaller then 15 inches. In order to make the focus look mature ford has changed the logo from lower case letters to bold and upper case. I would have to rate the looks a 4/5 because of how clean the car looks. Performance: This believe it or not, is the best part about this little bug. This car is zippy as most mid-size sedans, with it’s 2.0 liter 4 cylinder engine, which produces 136 horsepower. I would have to say that while I have driven many compacts, that this one is probably the best accelerating. The Focus is also zippy in the corners, I feel zero body roll when I take a turn and yes this isn’t a sports car. This car is really fun driving on the highway because there is hardly any noise inside, which I wasn’t expecting in this price range. The breaks are very responsive and there isn’t a mushy feeling. Features/ Layout: I would have to say that the layout of the ford focus is unique, because ford has implemented their edge stying. Most of the car is very oval inside and out, which makes for a plesant interior. The gauges are white in the day time, and very bright and easy to read during dusk/night driving. The focus comes with a CD changer which cannot compete with the VW New Beetle, which comes with a 6 disk. I would have to say that this is a great radio for casual driving, but for a road trip I would recommend upgrading. The focus also comes with other features like side impact air-bags and air conditioning. The Ford Focus is definitely a compact car you should look into if your looking to purchase a new car.
