Car Reviews 2026 Ford Taurus

Back in the 1990s through the 2000s, the Ford Taurus was labeled as a midsized car to compete with the popular models in the United States such as the Honda Accord and the Toyota Camry; all three cars were considered “mid-sized” family sedans. Now that the Ford Taurus has grown up, it has been pretty competitive to compete with the Honda Accord again (the Accord is now considered a full-size), the Nissan Maxima, and the Toyota Avalon. Most people would realize that the Taurus was considered as a “rental” car to take down to either San Diego or Las Vegas on a long stretch of highway on the I-5 or the I-15 due to the comfortable interior; but at $35,000, it is more than just a car. Now, I haven’t been a really big fan of Ford’s products (except for the Ford Fusion) these days, but I would let the new Taurus slide. If anyone wants to have the comfort and luxury of a Mercedes-Benz, BMW, or a Lexus, but does not want to spend the whole $45,000-$50,000 price tag, this is the car. The 2011 Ford Taurus has a 3.5-liter V6 engine producing 265 horsepower and 249 lb-ft. of torque. For a big car with a not-so-peppy engine, it is really safe to say that it is NOT so quick off the line; yes, a 0-60 time of 8 seconds flat is all that the Taurus could do. A Honda Accord V6 with its 271 horsepower can do about ½ a second quicker off the line. Of course, the new Taurus is not really meant for speed anyway. With a quiet cabin and a hell of an array of modern technology including Ford’s SYNC system and SONY 350-watt sound system, you can just grab a couple of your buddies, pack up their bags and say, “Hey, let’s take a road trip.” The trunk space is more than enough to fit two suitcases and maybe two duffel bags if you are lucky. The SYNC system for the Taurus includes hands-free Bluetooth with voice-recognition, a USB port for iPod/iPhone capability (talk to the dealer about connection for the iPhone 4), and a crash feature where in a front-end collision will automatically alert paramedics, and the police to ask if you have any injuries. Gas mileage on the Taurus? Not too great; of course, it is a V6. 17 miles per gallon around town and 25 miles per gallon on the highway are all that it can do. If you opt for the SHO model, ECO-boost can shut down three cylinders at 35-40 mph to improve fuel economy, just like Honda Accord’s VCM feature. So, what do you think of the Ford Taurus now? Would you want luxury, technology, or performance? This car has everything you would want in a luxury car without the hefty luxury price.
