Ford, one of the most reliable and well known names in the business usually top the charts when it comes to affordable, practical and safe cars for every situation. They have also been in the car making business longer than anyone else and certainly know a thing or two about making automobiles. The European Ford Focus has been one of the most highly rated and successful cars in history for example. However, beyond safety and practicality, Ford are perfectly capable of creating something untamed and wild. Enter the Ford Mustang. A classic amongst petrol-heads and muscle car fanatics, the Ford Mustang is a car loved worldwide, especially in its country of origin; America. The exterior has undergone some changes, but the look is essentially the same, with only minor tweaking occurring. It still looks as menacing as ever but now comes with new headlamps, lower facias and a redesigned pony emblem on the front grille. The interior is a little bland but includes all the modern amenities and Ford’s Sync multimedia system. The inside is more soundproof than it used to be, but as already mentioned, a little too spartan in design. The interior can be upgraded with options on different trims, however, with the Mustang it has only ever been about the exterior. The car comes with rear-wheel drive and the option of either a five or six speed manual or a five speed automatic transmission. It is also available as either a coupe or a convertible and can even hold four passengers, as long as those in the rear seat aren’t too big. When it comes to power, this car does not disappoint. The base model comes with a V-6, 4 litre, 210bhp engine that can really go. However, it is the upgrades to the engine that one can choose that make this car a powerhouse. The V-8, 4.6 litre option can push out 315bhp and the massive 5.4 litre, V-8 can power out a beastly 540bhp. The handling has been improved as well so the car manages to produce a decent ride to go along with all the firepower that is available. Along with improvements to the exterior, interior, engine and ride, the Mustang also provides excellent safety features with ABS, front and side airbags coming as standard along with traction control. Stability control would have been a nice addition but would seem a little ironic considering the character of the Mustang. The price of the Mustang ranges from around $21,000 to $55,000, depending entirely on the interior and exterior options and which of the three engines you choose. The fuel economy is also not too bad considering the Mustang is a muscle car. It ranges from around 14mpg to 25 mpg depending on where you are driving it. The Ford Mustang is back with a bang in 2010 and sits alongside its rival Camaros and Challengers with pride. It provides the power, the look and the essence of the true American muscle car and does so at a relatively affordable price. Yes there are a few things missing to make this car the complete package, but it is a great car nonetheless.
